Case Study
A use case on how a global manufacturer of contactless sensor
technology utilized SiliconExpert’s public API.
Elobau, a global manufacturer of contactless sensor technology, level measurement elements and operator control elements, uses the Siemens Teamcenter platform to keep track of their product knowledge. Teamcenter keeps track of parts, design, and bill of materials information.
Teamcenter® Integrated Material Management enables the usage of enterprise-wide approved material information for mission-critical product functions, such as design, engineering, compliance and manufacturing.
In order to calculate the product compliance for their large and variant-rich BOMs, Elobau had to manually chase declarations for their 20,000 buy parts. Gathering information from suppliers was laborious. It included web searches, emails and phone calls. The collected data was not systematically stored, providing limited data reusage possibilities. This in combination with constantly updating regulations such as the REACH Substances of Very High Concern
(SVHC) list, made a more integrated and automated set-up desirable.
Elobau knew that they needed to improve their Basic Material definition and automate the process of pulling in material declarations. They found Nexpirit, a Siemens Smart Expert Solution Partner who focuses on enabling the Green Digital Twin within the Siemens Portofolio.
After a process assessment and prototype phase, Elobau decided to introduce the IMM Solution. Given choices of where to extract compliance declaration information, elobau selected SiliconExpert, considered by many as the gold standard of compliance information.
Nexpirit provided a solution which streamlines the process around supplier declarations and enabled the Elobau engineers to gain visibility into all the materials and substances that make up their products. Substance Compliance data via the industry standard format IPC-1752 is automatically synchronized between Teamcenter and SiliconExpert. The latest and greatest declaration from
SiliconExpert is used to calculate the end-product compliance for various regulations, such as REACH and RoHS within Teamcenter. The corresponding REACH SVHC information is transferred automatically from Teamcenter to the central European SCIP Database.
Teamcenter acts as the library for Elobau’s EDA tool as well. This allows their design engineers access to up-to-date information when placing parts in their designs.
