How integrated material management streamlines compliance, accelerates time-to-market, and paves the way for sustainability.
Leading precision measurement technology company Leica Geosystems has achieved remarkable efficiency gains through the implementation of Siemens Teamcenter with Integrated Material Management (IMM) – with Nexpirit as their trusted implementation partner.
As regulations around material compliance, export compliance, and sustainability continue to intensify, Leica Geosystems needed a scalable solution to manage increasingly complex product data. Traditional processes were time-consuming and costly, with material assessments taking up to 7 hours for products with just 55 BOM lines.
“Teamcenter was a big step from PDM to PLM for us,” explains Alexander Perle, Director IT – CAD/PLM at Leica Geosystems. “The whole BOM management is the real benefit – we could finally close the gap between engineering and manufacturing.”
With Nexpirit’s expertise, Leica Geosystems implemented Teamcenter’s Integrated Material Management module, creating a digital thread that serves as the digital twin of their products.
The numbers speak for themselves:
Leica Geosystems leverages IMM for multiple compliance areas:
“Our partnership with Nexpirit started with the IMM-project,” notes Perle. “Companies should use Teamcenter with material and export compliance because it’s very well integrated. Especially IMM is very easy to handle in TC.”
The collaboration continues to evolve, with Nexpirit now supporting Leica Geosystems in implementing the “Teamcenter for Sustainability” module to capture emissions, resource consumption, and ultimately reduce CO2 output.
“As an experienced Siemens Teamcenter implementation partner, we have successfully deployed IMM, substance compliance, and export compliance solutions across numerous companies,” explains Lucas Dann, Managing Director of Nexpirit. “The integration into Teamcenter PLM makes processes simple and user-friendly for all stakeholders. The project with Leica Geosystems exemplifies the measurable success that can be achieved through professional PLM implementation.”
“In our opinion, one of the biggest levers is to start at the BOM and individual material level,” emphasizes Lucas Dann. “When we know the composition of our parts and assemblies, we can scale statements and run analyses across complete BOMs. With this data, we can then work to improve and change things – for example, to reduce our emissions.”
“Compliance checks should happen as early as possible in our innovation projects,” emphasizes Perle. This proactive approach, enabled by Teamcenter IMM, positions Leica Geosystems not just for regulatory compliance, but for leadership in sustainable product development.
